Lock 44 Track Trail, Williamsport, Md.

Signage for the Track Trail

Today we took a tour of the Track Trail in Williamsport, Md.  It follows the towpath from Cushwa Basin to Lock 44 and doubles back, and there are plenty of interesting things to see along the way.  A map/checklist is available at the sign, and kids (of all ages) who are interested can check off the sights as they come to them.

Lock and Lockhouse 44

In all, kids are encouraged to check out Cushwa Basin, the railroad lift bridge, Lock 44 and the lock house, Milepost 99, and whatever flora and fauna they see along the way.  More information and hiking opportunities are available at www.kidsinparks.com.

Yeah, this does seem like a good idea. A lot of the people volunteering, etc. on the canal are middle-aged and beyond. I’m not sure how I fit into that equation! Anyway, getting kids interested is a great thing. I haven’t heard anything lately about Williamsport, Md., but Williamsport, Pa. does host the LL World Series. Maybe that’s it.
