View From the Other Side

Looking upstream from the WV side toward Great Cacapon

This is a view of the Potomac River valley from the parking lot of the Panorama Steakhouse, just outside of Berkeley Springs, WV.  The river is near the middle of the picture, and the cluster of dots in the distance is the rooftops in the town of Great Cacapon, WV.  The confluence of the Potomac and Cacapon Rivers is just downstream from the town, and the C&O Canal towpath is just to the left of the clearing on the right side.  At mile 133.6 on the C&O, at the Cacapon Junction campsite, one can look across the river at the bridges (WV Rt. 9 and the railroad) crossing the Cacapon near where it enters the Potomac, and looking downstream toward the West Virginia side, the mountain where this picture was taken looms large.

  1. Absolutely wonderful views… It’s such a mountainous region… I love it….Makes me yearn for the Muggies and Gila’s….

It’s too bad there was a shadow at the time. There’s a place off of ARt. 9 called the Panorama Steakhouse, and this is the view from their parking lot. When the leaves are down, you can see the C&O Canal towpath. It looks like a thin line.
